We yell. A lot.
And I don't mean the 'oh my god, I hate you' sort of yelling. I mean a funny sort of yelling. We drive a mini van and what you need to know about that (and what I've suffered years from) is that in the very back of the car you can't hear a thing. I'm being serious, if I'm sitting in the back seat of the car and someone in the very front says something, I can't hear them. Even if there's no music playing. That always caused me to lean forward, tap Mere on the head, and then ask her to repeated whatever was said. Suffice to say, I missed a lot of what Mom was saying on the way to school in senior year of high school and I'm still not sure what was said. Now that the four of us use the car, we keep the back seats folded into the floor (best used to optimize space) and we use the driver's seat, the passenger seat, and the two seats right behind those two. Now we can hear everything...and I mean everything. That's where the yelling comes in, especially because we have a rule that no one but the rest of us can back seat drive. That's helpful and unhelpful. It's good for merging. It's good to see if we're going to hit another car when parking. It's good to see out the back window is someone is walking behind our car. All of that is fine and good up until we're trying to pull out onto a busy street. Somehow I always seem to get the brunt of this (don't get me started about how driving home from NC from Thanksgiving break) and I'm the one that gets easily irritated about it. I have Mack in the passenger seat and usually Steph in the backseat telling me when to go and we all have different perceptions of time and speed. When I see a car coming from my left and am gauging the distance and they say I have time to go, I don't think I have time to go because of how fast they're going, how slow the car starts up when I'm pulling out, the rainy conditions, and because I'm not sure how fast the other person's break time is. For the most part I'm usually pretty good when it comes to gauging distance as well as I think it's safe or not. Needless to say we easily start yelling at each other over this and while in the moment, it's not funny, seconds after we get back on the road it's actually pretty funny. One way you can tell when we get worked up is because our voices get really high and some would say 'squeaky' and when that happens, our voices crack, which usually ends up making us crack up. While driving can be very stressful for some, its actually very entertaining for the four of us as we always find something to laugh at. Peace, -Jess

It was SUPER freezing today.
So my sisters and I had to wake up early so we could drive somewhere that was about a half hour away. We had to get up at the pint that it was still very dark outside and when we got going, the sun was really only starting to rise. Or maybe that was my perception of it. Ok, ok. It was only seven in the morning when I got up. But I was tired and had gone to sleep really late last night. (Curse you YouTube videos). Now, did we need all four of us going to drive where we needed to go? No, definitely not. We only needed one, really. But that's what happens when we made CDs of our favorite songs, aka "Car Tunes 1-12". (Besides, Steph needed to know how to get to where we were going, someone needed to hold the GPS, Mere was the one we were dropping off, and I didn't want to be in the apartment alone. I don't particularly like being alone). Anyway, that was all fine and good. We sang along to our favorite songs, dropped Mere off, drove back, and waited to pick her up. So Mere calls and says we can pick her up...but Steph had already taken the car to go on campus. That's ok, though, right? We'll just call her and tell her that Mere was done. Wrong. She left the sound of her phone off and Mack and I just continued to call her. It got to the pint that we did it on purpose, just to see how many calls we could rack up on her phone before she answered. (Me: You're just going to keep hitting re-dial aren't you? Mack: *with evil smile* Yep! (We managed to get about twelve calls in)). Steph gets back, then we all drive back to get Mere, pick her up, and drive back to school. That's there the problem was. It was raining a lot and the temperature dropped. But we got back to school, wanted to get lunch from the dining hall and didn't want to take the car if we were going to either try to rush and eat in thirty minutes (if we got a thirty minute space) or to park in our designated area and walk (which is far away/completely across campus from the dining hall). So we just decided to talk from our apartment. Bad idea. It rained harder, the temperature dropped, the path we take to get on campus was flooded, and I was completely soaked by the time I got to the dining hall. Nothing is worse than being in wet clothes when you're in a very warm room. It is a sick and disgusting feeling, people. Of course I got even more soaked and cold when I got back. But when I got back into the apartment, and I was shivering, I ran to my room, changed into dry clothes, layered myself in three blankets, and squished into a chair with my laptop, in a cocoon, refusing to get up until I was warm. It took a while and I looked ridiculous. Now, a simple thirty minute trip may seem like a regular thirty minute trip to you all. But with the four of us it's a 'road trip' and we laugh and smile just as much on those trips than we do the rest of the day. And trust me, that's a lot. :) Peace, -Jess So today was the last class day of the week. I only have class three days (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and I'm already a bit tired of the routine. It's not that I don't like my class, it's just that I dread getting up knowing I'm going to be lectured for three hours on end. But that was the first week, apparently we're supposed to watch more TV as the classes go on, so that could be a good thing.
Yesterday we watched two episodes of the Bernie Mac show. I actually don't like that show at all, but the two episodes were funny. The only thing that was annoying was the fact Netflix kept buffering. *Cue horror music here*. It was bad, even worse than last semester where a YouTube video, a THREE MINUTE YouTube video took over two hours to load. TWO HOURS! Do you know how crazy I went trying to watch stuff? Yeah, you'd think you could just use another site but ohhhhh no! Buffering for any video last semester sucked and that was my terrible flashback in class yesterday when Netflix buffer sucked. Thankfully our professor acknowledged how bad it was and sympathized. But today was even better, we watched Everybody Loves Raymond. I don't particularly like that show either, but it's interesting to see how it's a sitcom that only has one story play throughout the episode. It was the episode "No Fat" where Raymond's mother decides to go on a diet and make a healthy Thanksgiving. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time apart from watching that episode. I probably would have done the same thing Ray had done, their funny faces when they ate the tofu turkey was hysterical. I even practiced some of my own funny faces if I ate anything that bad...and got some weird looks from it as well. Otherwise, we assigned ourselves the TV shows we're going to write a episode/script for and I'm excited. Even if I don't become a sitcom writer later in life, the ability to get experience with it is something that I'm looking forward to. It's also the reason I took the screenwriting class last semester, so I could learn how to do a movie script. It's great experience of being a writer in general and being able to get a start in all different aspects of writing in general. Especially when it comes to writing out jokes. I mean, my sisters and I are pretty funny, but I don't want to try and force jokes or not have the characters sound like them. It shouldn't be that difficult, we're always laughing about something, even if we put each other down. Jokingly, of course. Today for example, I was--jokingly--saying that I wanted recognition for something with Mack and Mere and this is how the conversation went: Me: I just want some recognition :P *preens like a peacock* Mere: you're such a idiot Mere: Mack, how could you put up sharing a room with her until high school? Mack: i ignored her most of the time Mack: :P Me: :D <---that was a laughing emoticon, btw Mere: lol So my day was pretty chilled and I'm basking in the fact that I have the day off tomorrow. So that means I have all day to write if I want to or to just laze around and relax. Which, of course, is the beauty of only having class three days a week. *Throws hands into the air and does a victory dance*. I'm excited for the weekend, I'm excited for the class, and I'm really excited for what the rest of the school year has to offer. I know the year is going to fly by and we're going to graduate soon, and I just want to have a blast for my last semester. I had a great day, today. I hope you all did too. Peace, -Jess Since I want to get this blog post done before midnight, I'll recap today's J-Term class tomorrow because I have class tomorrow as well. Besides, what I want to talk about is a bit more important. (To me anyway, probably not to you).
Ahem. Mere and I were going through old websites we had made for our writing/chracters and deleting them. We ended up finding a forum that we had created ages ago and completely forgot about. But finding it again brought up a lot of old memories from '07, '08, '09, and '10 as it was something that we wrote about for those (roughly) four years. It showed us things about our characters that we had written in the past that stayed the same and things that had changed. The biggest change is something that defined one of our characters as well as the names of some others. But the thing that brought us the biggest amount of joy was finding a story that a friend of ours had written with our characters in it along with her character, another friend, and a band that we liked at the time. The memories of sharing those stories with each other, laughing at what we had written (and I still laughed hysterically at it now) as well as spending hours on end talking to each other about it made me smile and remember all of the good times we spent together as well as the bad that we helped each other through. We don't talk to them as much as we used to (even having become pen-pals with one at one point before life got in the way) but we know that we're going to be friends for a long time and we're grateful for the time that we had shared with them and that we hope to continue to share with them in the future along with the new and even greater friends that we have made through our writing as well. Yeah, this was kind of a corny blog, I'm lucky I like corn. Peace, -Jess So not much happened today except the cold.
I'll admit at first I didn't believe it was going to be that bad. Big mistake. I darted back into the apartment and put on more layers (a t-shirt, long sleeved shirt, jacket, sweatshirt, and large puffy vest along with a beanie and gloves). My top half was warm, but I had nothing other than my jeans for my legs so my bottom half was kind of cold. I nearly made it the whole day without going anyway for that reason alone. But the good thing about the cold is that there's a lot to do, this weekend we're going to a VT hockey game, next weekend we're going snowboarding/snowtubing and ice skating and at some point we're going to use our free movie tickets to see whatever we want. So far this year is turnng out to be pretty nice for us. Oh! My mom told me "don't be a hater" today. Yes, she actually texted me that. She was saying that her school had a two hour delay tomorrow because of the cold and I texted back: "Lucky you" -___- and she texted back: "Don't be a hater". I read it out loud to my sisters and we cracked up for like, five minutes. And I have it screenshotted on my phone in case I need it for proof. Haha. Hope everyone had a good day staying out of the cold. Peace, -Jess Obligatory comment about how cold it was today....I wanted to cry every time I had to go outside because no matter how much I bundled, I was still cold. I'm now even more envious of my brothers being where it's warm. Otherwise, it was a good day.
It had a scary start thought. I, for the first time in my life, experienced sleep paralysis. When this happens, you're in a state of being asleep and waking up and in that state, you can hallucinate. For me, I felt someone push down on my bed, lay down next to me, heard them breathe, felt them lay over my face, and then I was finally able to wake up. I felt the whole thing, like someone was really there and while I was aware I was awake, I couldn't wake up. Scared me so bad I immediately jumped up and left the room to start the day. If I told you this in person, it would scare you even more. The middle of the day was uneventful, I got the shoes I ordered (yahoo) had a very...miniscule lunch with little to no options other than pizza, and then went to class. My only class for this month, which I'm really excited about is Writing The American Sitcom. It is what it sounds like, we learn how to write TV sitcoms, which is really exciting because I already know how to write books and movie scripts, but not sitcoms. And our final product will be writing an episode of a current running sitcom, like, writing our own script for what we think a good episode to fit in the show will be. So, to get an idea of how sitcoms work we started out by watching a episode of 30 Rock (which I didn't think was funny at all) and a episode of I Love Lucy (which I love!). The best part was that it was the "Vitameatavegamin" episode and that's my favorite one, it always makes me laugh whenever I see it. So Mack and I are really excited for the class and we think it'll be good practice for us if we ever want to become screenwriters. Plus, it'll be good for the four of us to know if we want to have experience working in different parts of the writing industry. We've already thought of the class teaching us how to turn our book into a sitcom, for practice and it'll be interesting to see. Tomorrow is goign to be VERY cold and I'm glad I don't have class tomorrow or else I would rebel. Personally, I don't understand why they still have classes (when there's a potential for power to go out and for the pipes to freeze) but that's just me. I'll do anything for a day off even if I already have it. ;) Peace, -Jess Break is over, time to go back to school, we drove back today.
And it was a interesting drive. The best part was that there wasn't any traffic at all, it was smooth sailing all the way up to Roanoke. Which is cool because if you know the traffic on the interstates around the holidays, you know how frustrating it can be. So we made it to school in record time. *Punches with with fist*. And we were able to listen to a lot of music on the way up which was cool (aka "Car Tunes" <---that was Mack's joke) and I sang and sang until I started to lose my voice. You don't ever want to get me around music I love, I really get into it. (Plus, that reminds me that my bass instructor suggested I take voice lessons while I'm in my last semester since it's so easy and I was actually thinking about it). So, being the silly people we are, instead of lowering the music when we tried to talk to talk to each other, we just shouted. I was sitting in the back with Mere and Mack and Steph were in the passenger and driver's seats. Every now and then we would say something and then the other person would lean forward or back and say... WHAT?! And have to have the comment repeated a few times before we decided to turn down the music. So for a while we were just shouting at each other. Then we got to school, unpacked, ate dinner, and (also what we're currently doing) decided to chill. We were looking at the news about a "celebrity" couple that had just recently gotten married and changed BOTH of thier last names to a smushing of their respective last names (without a hyphen) and hwo werid it is. Our comments were tame compared to everyone else's. The nwe got into a conversation about the celebrities that get their names mushed together that actually sounds right (Bradgelina) or actually makes a work (TomKat) and came to the sad conclusion that our 'couple names' would not work with anything. Though we had fun trying to come up with something. Mack came up with her and someone who's name started with an 'L'. They would be known as 'Lack' for lack of a better name. Haha. Then we got into the conversation about how many big bands and actors and athletes have nicknames for their fans "Beliebers", "Monsters", "Katy Kats", "Cruisers", what have you. We thought that if we ever got a fanbase big enough that our fans would want to call themselves something...we wouldn't want them to. It's getting annoying and none are unique, but we came up with a few good ones: Jackson -Jacksonites -Jacksonians Jess -Jessters Mack - we came up with the most for this one -Apples -Big Macs -Sandwiches -Subs -Mini Subs -Truckies Mere -Mereian -Mayors (if you stress/pronounce Mere's name like 'Mayor' it makes sense) Steph -Stephanites Mack clearly has the better ones, but it was still fun to come up with. We were laughing sooooooooooo hard when we came up with them. Probably the highlight of our day, apart from trying to shove so much food into our car at the same time we were telling our dogs goodbye, talking to our Dad on the phone, and trying to help Mpm set p her computer. We get lost.
And it's not in the way where you have absolutely no idea where you are. It's the whole, woops, I missed the exit vs. how can you miss that? sort of thing. We were taking our car to be inspected, me and Steph in one car and Mack and Mere in another. All four of us in one car together is already funny, but two and two can be funnier. So we were going to where we would get the car inspected and I was in the passenger seat, navigating. Apparently I suck at it because I completely didn't see where we were supposed to go, getting it mixed up with a different store, so we had to turn around and go back...and I directed her into the wrong end of the parking lot. Had to back up/turn and then go into the lot again, this time with my face firmly planted against the window to be sure I knew where we were going. And then, Mack and Mere were in the other car, using a GPS, and still missed the turn at least two times. When we finally met up and got out of the car, we were already laughing and explaining how we went the wrong way. Apparently, Mere, who was in the passenger seat of their car, was telling Mack where to go but she wouldn't listen. Mack says she's a good navigator, but if you ask me, not so much. (Which is another funny story and while she is good, I like to fake-complain to her about it). One trip to get a car inspected = many laughs with us, and thinking about it again makes me laugh even more. As per usual. Peace, -Jess So my day in a nutshell has to do with one word...snow.
Or as it says in the dictionary: atmospheric water vapor frozen into ice crystals and falling in light white flakes or lying on the ground as a white layer. You know what I call it? A waste of time if you're on a break. So it's the last couple of days of winter break and we get snow...what does that do? Is it going to stop me from going to J-Term...no. (And I hope it doesn't because I'm actually looking forward to my class). But it does keep me from traveling anywhere, especially people that don't know how to drive in snow and don't know my cities roads, but they try anyway. Can you say accidents up the wazoo? Yep. Happens every year. But you know the worst part? The fact that, here, it doesn't snow enough to have it where I can sled or have a snowball fight just as well as the fact that it makes it hard to clear off my cars. Especially when it snows, then melts, and freezes over everything. You try to clear the driveway...but then what's the point? Though I can admit that it caused for a lot of glares and laughter from me and my sisters as a recently cleared spot would be packed on with snow from atop the cars we were trying to shovel around. Imagine it happening more than once and our glares becoming more and more vicious until the other person notices. Hysterical right? I'm telling you people, comedy gold here! Hope you guys had a good wintery day. Peace, -Jess So I figured that for 2014 I would document every day in a blog. So here's January 2nd...
First thing's first, I bought a wholllllleeeeee bunch of stuff off of Adidas.com. My broter got me and my sisters and other brother a 50 dollar giftcard for it and I went nuts. I like to get things on sale as it is so I was able to get a cool jacket AND a new pair of shoes AND get if all 20% off. So even though I didn't actually spend anything (thank god for giftcards) I still saved a lot. Frugal shopper here! I even managed to get Mere's christmas gift, which was a watch that is usually over $100 for only about $30! I figured that'd be the highlight of my day, but no. The highlight was having to chase my dogs around the neighborhood, trying to catch them. Ok, so someone had already found them and took them into their house to call our number for us to come get them. But it was kind of funny picturing the four of us running four different ways around the neighborhood to find them. Trust me, you would have found it funny too: four different colors sprinting off around our neighborhood. Hysterical. Anyone that knows me knows I'm a writer. So they know that I'm on my computer or am handwriting in a notebook or on a stack of college rule paper for extended periods of time. After doing NaNoWriMo in November (at least 50,000 words a month) I actually found it too easy. And that was reinforced by the fact that I've written well over 10,000 words today. I'm not bragging, because bragging isn't my style, but I think it says something that in a couple of hours I can write that much and not get tired or bored with whatever I'm working with. Heck, my sisters and I have been able to do that for years as we publish some of our works online (but we'll get to that at some other time). Speaking of, met some really good friends on the site that we publish too, so that's cool. Last thing...we signed up for snow tubing and ice skating in J-Term. As soon as Steph told us about snow tubing, I practically screamed at her to send the link so we can sign up. Hello! Snow tubing, in january, up in Lynchburg. It's gonna be sweet. And while I'm not so great at ice skating, I love that too. My sisters and I were talking to a friend about our Valentine's Day date (yes, he took a set of quadruplets out on a "hot date". Valentine's Day 2009, shout out to Dylan) ice skating so it's kind of ironic that we're going again now. That should be fun too, I haven't gone in a while but I've always enjoyed it. Oh and, surprise surprise, it's snowing here. It doesn't EVER snow in Roanoke enough to matter, but it's snowing here. What a big slap in the face that is. *rolls eyes*. Seriously, though, it brings for laughs, because when I was going to go get the trash and recycling bins from outside, I told my Mom that I would go get it. This is the rest that happened. Mom: You need something on your feet. Me: I know that. I was going to go get some shoes. I'm not that stupid. *pauses for a second*. Sometimes my actions may be questionable, but I'm not that stupid. Cue laughter from my sisters here. And this brings up the question: "why don't you have your own TV show?" Frankly, I don't know. I think we'd be great. Comedy gold here. Hahaha. Peace, -Jess |
