Yes, you read the title correctly. Hairbands, not to be confused with headbands, but in some cases they are the same but interchangeable. Anyone that knows me really well, knows that I enjoy knitting. The number one thing I love to knit are scarves but a close second and third are hates and headbands. A bright colored and handmade headband is a great accessory and fashion statement. Hairbands, or headbands if you want to call them that, come in various different forms. It can be knitted, made form cotton, made from hard plastic, metal, elastic, etc. It can be a simple piece of plastic in a "u" shape to hold the hair back, or it can be embellished with a certain design or pattern. The type of hairband that is really popular these days are the hairbands with giant bows on top. When worn, it makes the wearer look like she has giant rabbit ears on her head. The bow can also turn a very dressy look into a dressy-casual look. The giant bow hairband is a great statement piece and helps bring out an innocent charm to the wearer. I enjoy knitting headbands and hairbands because it is a simple hair accessory that can easily help make an outfit stand out. Plus, i greatly enjoy being able to be my own walking billboard with my new designs. :p I also, personally, like wearing them because it is a simply way to brush your hair back if you don't feel like styling it and you can keep one in your purse or even in your glove box for easy access. Until next time! -SJ

Okay, here is installment # 2 of Fashion Friday. This is a nail trend I've seen becoming really popular aside from the nail art where one nail, usually your middle finger, is a different color than the rest of your nails. This is the reverse french manicure trend. The reverse french manicure is just that. With a french manicure the white color is at the tip of your nails. In this trend, the white, or whatever color you choose, is at the bottom of your nails. This trend is becoming big because it is a new take on a classic style. With the dark and light colors of the nail polish that you choose, you are sure to catch someone's eyes with this sleek take on popular style. Plus, this isn't just a summer style or even a bridal style. I tend to see french manicures more during the summer and at weddings. This reverse style can fit any occasion, especially with the colors you choose to mix n' match. I personally love this style mainly because it doesn't require me to have long nails. I personally don't like having long nails, I prefer short nails. Plus, no matter how hard I try, when i try to grow out my nails and make them strong they always end up breaking off. I hate the feeling of a broken nail so I just keep my nails short and cute. This style of nail is actually pretty simple to pull off especially if you have nail art pens or nail art brushes. Thanks to my sister, Jess, for letting me use one of her Amazon gift cards, I was able to order the Hot Designs Nail Art pens and I love them! They are very easy to use. There is some debate with this nail trend though: do you put the light color on the bottom and put the darker color on top? Or do you put the dark color on the bottom and the lighter one on top? I will be testing this out soon and sharing my findings in a new YouTube video. I will be doing a tutorial video on how to do a reverse french manicure. It will be linked here in this blog and also posted on our FB page so be on the lookout for that. Until next time! -SJ So for those people that know me really well i love clothes, dressing up, fashion, styling, etc. I love it so much that some of my family members have given me the nickname "sylista" or "fashionista". I had even acquired an internship (online) with The Fashion Foot, although it was mainly for my writing. I don't know why, but I just like putting together really cute/interesting outfits and styles. I even want to learn how to sew to make my own clothing but that's another topic.
While growing up I would hear from many people that wearing tights/leggings with shorts its a look you want to avoid. I now realize that the look actually works, if you do it correctly. This look is perfect for a simple outing with friends, maybe a trip to the ice skating rink if its open around this time of year, or even to a very nice event. Here are some tips on how to wear tights/leggings and shorts: -Don't wear sheer tights with the shorts. -Don't match your shorts to your tights. Example: if you have shorts that has zebra print on them, don't wear zebra print leggings. -If you want to look taller, wear black tights/leggings with black shoes. -Do not wear sneakers while wearing shorts with leggings/tights. It brings the look down to make it too casual. -Make boots, heels, or flats your shoe of choice when wearing shorts and tights/leggings. However, with boots don't have the top of the boot be too high or it may make the overall look somewhat trashy. With ankle boots, you can use leg warmers as an accessory or an added pop of color. -When in doubt add leather or a jacket.....or a leather jacket. -Keep things simple on top with a nice sweater. -Denim is usually the shorts of choice but any kind can do just fine but make sure it isn't ill-fitting. -If you wear light colored shorts then wear dark tights/leggings. If you wear dark colored shorts then wear light colored tights/leggings. -Don't wear too small or too little shorts. -If you have long shorts, roll up the bottom. Hope this helps! -SJ |
