So, I'm doing something different for this Fashion Friday. I made a friend on tumblr and I quickly noticed her amazing fashion sense when she started posting pictures of herself. A lot of the clothing she wears I would love to try, but I'm sure, and using her photos as evidence, they work for her and would probably look like I slightly missed the mark if I were to ever try. This is Anna, and yes I got permission to use her photos for this post. What first drew me to this picture was her leather jacket. Okay, and her eyebrows because I am super envious of them. Anyway, I think leather jackets are perfect for those cool summer nights and especially in the fall. They can turn a somewhat nice/dressy look even dressier if it fits your personal style or can bring it down a bit if you want to add in a splash of casual. Her pairing it with the bright top underneath helps make the jacket stand out. I then picked this photo because of the whole outfit. I don't know if flannel is more her style or a normality of where she's from (which I'm not going to say here cause of security reasons) but it definitely works for this outfit and a few other photos she's posted. Having the black high-waisted leather skirt and black shoes definitely help the shirt pop, because of its dark colors. The gold necklace was also a nice touch because it brings an overall statement to the look, but also doesn't detract your attention. She really knows how to work her colors well. Finally, i chose to talk about this picture because it is one of her more casual looks. Because of the lightning, I'm not too sure what color the top is, but it doesn't matter because it matches the light wash denim so well. The fact that Anna matched her dark shoes with the outline of her shirt, and her belt helps bring this whole look together. And i really like the anklet she has on her left ankle (at least, i'm pretty sure that's an anklet) because it's an accessory that stands out and also brings the pants and the shoes together, since the footwear has a white edge.
With her personal style, I can tell that she'll try on clothes that she likes and just goes with the flow. She definitely has an eye for detail and seems to try mix and match, with great results. Some of these looks I may have to try myself as we get into the upcoming Fall season. :) -SJ

I am excited for Spring to come. Not because I'm tired of snow and rain and just want it to be daylight savings time so that I can spend more time outside, although those points are true. I'm excited for the big colors this year and they are aquamarine and mint green. I just found out about these big colors from a trip to the Charming Charlie in the mall I frequently go to. Mint Green is very big in this store and it has its own section. This shade of green helps give any outfit a pop and is nice and easy on the eyes. It i not overbearing in the slightest. Just take a look at the other accessories Charming Charlie has to offer in this fantastic color! http://www.charmingcharlie.com/accessories.html?color_family=mint Aquamarine is a big color as well. You may as well go with beachy greens and blues this spring and into the summer. These shades of colors will catch anyone's eye and will stand out with the other various colors coming out as the weather warms up. Although, if you start rocking those shades now, you will probably bring some lively colors to this dull weather those of us on the East Coast have been having for a while.
-SJ I live on the coast and it tends to rain. And rain. And rain. And rain. AND RAIN. I think you all can see a pattern here. However, if it rains a lot in your area this doesn't mean you can let the dull grey sky affect your clothing. You can still look stunning in Rainy Day gear.
Sweatshirts are basically the staple in a girl's closet. It can either be a boyfriend's sweatshirt or just something worn when they don't feel like dressing up. Or it is one of those days and you just want to be as comfortable as possible. Depending on if you're going out or staying in, the sweatshirt can be paired with leggins or skinny pants. Bright colors easily stand out against the dull grey background from the weather. There have been some tests stating that bright bold colors can change your mood for the better. It is a good way to bring some life into your wardrobe and the grey outside world. Rain boots are always a staple in your wardrobe when rain is usually in the forecast. My favorite thing about rain boots is that there are numerous different styles and designs for the footwear. They come all different types including ankle boots and even high heeled boots. And of course, the one must have for your rainy day looks is an umbrella. While it obviously helps keep the rain off of your head the different patterns, shapes, and designs that can help make an outfit stand out. The good thing about umbrellas is that it doesn't matter if it matches your clothing or not because it is simply a statement piece! -SJ I love wearing boots. They can bring any casual wear up to being nice or dressy-nice. I have what you would say a collection of boots. Over the years, sometimes, it gets hard for me to get rid of a few pairs of them for various reasons. I remember I was a little sad when I had to give up my first pair. I had owned and worn them from the eighth grade up until my sophomore year of college. I actually end up naming my boots. Some of them I named myself and some of them other people have named for me. The names are as follows: -These Boots Are Made for Walking boots -Leprechaun Boots -Eskimo Boots -Pirate Boots -Pirate Boots II -Stormy Grey Boots -Platform Boots -Interview Boots I've never had all eight of these boots at one time and I would switch out the boots I would wear depending on the color of the shoe and the season. With it being winter, it is time to bring out your colorful sweaters, scarves, knitted hats, gloves, and jackets and shoes. Leg warmers and arm warmers are making a comeback. If you don't own any you can make a simple and easy pair out of old socks. Colorful and patterned tights/tights with a design are big right now as well, especially if you wear them shorts, skirts, or jeans with holes in them so the pattern peeks through. Yes, you can wear tights or leggins under jeans. Even though no one can see them, they keep your legs warm through the bitterly cold temperature. Word of warning though, leggings are only to be worn in place of pants if you are wearing a long enough skirt, dress, or tunic. Leggins are not pants. Knitted hats or bean hats have always been a staple for winter wear. You can find them at most clothing stores or if you know how to knit, you can easily whip up a hat in a variety of colors and styles that would make people ask you where you got it. Scarves are a must have as well. These days there are various types but a popular scarf this year is the hooded scarf. You can wear it around your head to protect yours ears from the cold and then pull it down to have it worn casually around your neck. Don't put away your colorful sweaters too quickly. Even though Christmas is over, pattered and designed sweaters are a must have during the winter season. They can easily bring up the look of a regular pair of jeans. Plus, if you have a sweater tunic, they would look great with both tights/leggins or pants. Finally, with jackets, really any jacket will do. Pea-coats are great for women to give them that feminine look. What is also big are faux-fur trims on the jacket like a hood or even faux-fur vests. It adds a classic sleek style to your look and you won't be harming animals in the process. Don't forget these tips to bring up your winter fashion.
-SJ A trend that I have recently gotten into is ear cuff. They are your standard earrings but have a clip or cuff where you can fasten to a higher part of your ear. There is still a general post at the bottom so you can fasten the earring in your usual ear lobe piercing. I don't remember how I got into this trend but I am in love with it. It adds an edge to standard earrings. For a while now I've been going back and forth on getting my cartridge pierced and with the cuff I'm able to see what it would look like if I did actually get it pierced. There are various types of ear cuffs and in numerous different styles. Stores like Claire's and Icing by Clarie's sells these items at a decent price. I suggest though you don't get your ear pierced at any of those two stores. Aside from a general cuff like this: there are also chains: and wraps: This trend in jewelry also makes a big fashion statement on red carpets. Though they are usually worn during the summer, ear cuffs can edge up any outfit.
Which style of ear cuff would you wear? -SJ |
